A Calor LPG-powered weed burner is the ideal solution to weed control problems faced by many organic farmers.

Organic farming is becoming increasingly popular in Britain, but farming without herbicides can lead to heightened weed competition - specifically in the case of slow-growing crops.

LPG weed burners use heat to kill off the unwanted vegetation - and recent advancements in LPG weed burner technology have made the weed burning process easier and quicker than ever before.

The weed burners are available with widths of up to six metres, enabling you to cover more hectares in less time. The larger burners are just as easy to use, and allow you to work far more efficiently - crucial in a business where timing is everything.

The 6m greenburner has recently been improved to increase power and reduce the effect of strong winds. The vaporisation column has been lowered and is now exposed to higher heat levels - leading to a stronger working flame.

The front of the machine has also been amended, using galvanised metal plates to help keep the wind out. Plans for 2008 include a 3-bed folding burner - deeper than the 6m version and designed so that each crop bed will have a separate enclosed working area.

In addition to the popular 6m burners, hand-held weed burners are also available. They run on single cylinders of Calor propane and can be manoeuvred easily to help keep those difficult-to-reach areas weed-free.

The cylinder-powered weed burners range in size from 15cm to upwards of 70cm. The larger 'walk-behind' burners are simply pushed along, while the smaller burners are carried - with the optional help of a trolley to take the weight of the cylinder.

Both types of model are capable of tackling weeds on any terrain, utilising the same principle as the tractor burners to initially colour the weeds before they die off completely.

A smaller weed burner but still robust and reliable, the 1.8m Greenburner is capable of weed control as well as desiccation and debris destruction.

Modified a number of times since its launch to meet the needs of the modern farmer, it now holds 1200 litres of Calor LPG - allowing up to 20 hours work between refills.

A combination of direct flame and infra-red heat work to destroy any weeds that are passed over, while the effect of any wind is minimised by a special air knife mounted on the rear of the machine.

The 1.6m Compact burner can handle the same crops and weeds as the 1.8m model, but weighs in at just 700kg (half the weight of its counterpart).

It is powered by 4 x 47kg Calor LPG cylinders as opposed to a bulk tank - and can be equipped with a second cylinder cartridge to avoid unnecessary down time.

The cylinders empty at an equal rate, helping the burner achieve a consistently high level of performance.
