Farmers can count on Calor

Farmers can count on CalorOne of the country’s most successful farmers markets has been presented with a special birthday present from Calor, the UK’s leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Calor donated a gas powered barbecue, worth over £300, to the organizers of Orton Farmers Market, which was recently named as Britain’s Farmers Market of 2005.

The Broil King Crown 40 barbecue was presented to organizer Jane Brook at Orton Farmer’s Market’s 5th birthday party on May 14th. A number of farmers will be cooking on the barbecue throughout the day so that visitors can sample their delicious locally grown food. The barbecue will also become a regular feature at the farmers market, which is held on the second Saturday of each month from 9.30am until 2.30pm.

Orton Farmers Market was crowned National Farmers Market of the Year 2005 and was the first accredited farmers market in Britain. Jane says: “We are absolutely delighted with this special birthday gift of a barbecue and gas from Calor. It will be used as a platform for the local farmers so visitors can sample their food. It shows how keen Calor is to work with the local farming community.” adds Jane.

Calor’s Paul Riding said: “We are more than happy to donate a gas barbecue to Orton Farmers Market. The market helps to promote the local farming community and encourages people to buy local produce.

“The barbecue will enable people to actually taste the local produce there and then. This shows the versatility of Calor which enables farmers and businesses to use gas for all of their energy requirements. Calor is at the heart of the rural community and is keen to support Britain’s quality food producers.” he adds.

Throughout the day over 40 local farmers, growers, producers and craftsmen will be offering their produce and crafts for sale. At 10am, Eric Robson, chair of Gardener’s Question Time and Cumbria Tourist Board, will be cutting a huge birthday cake made especially for the occasion by Country Fare. At 10.30am, John Crouch, renowned local chef and entertainer, will be giving cookery demonstrations.

Calor helps rural businesses by catering for all of their energy requirements – including heating, crop drying, weed control and poultry and game rearing.

The company runs the established Calor Village of the Year initiative, that celebrates and rewards rural community life and sustainability, and Calor recently embarked on a campaign to link quality food production with quality food preparation, enlisting the support of celebrity chef Brian Turner.

Calor has been closely involved with agriculture for 70 years and is the market leader in the supply of LPG. Calor has more technical expertise and experience than any other supplier. The company has the largest supply network in the UK and one of the largest fleets of delivery tankers in Europe.
